Wellness Journey
Marriage and Family Therapy, PLLC
“Wellness is not a ‘medical fix’ but a way of living – a lifestyle sensitive and responsive to all the dimensions of body, mind, and spirit, an approach to life we each design to achieve our highest potential for well-being now and forever.” - Greg Anderson

About me
My name is Elena Covo, I was born in Paris, France, where I became a Clinical Psychologist. I later graduated as a Marriage Family Therapist in San Francisco, where I expanded my expertise. I originally trained as a Psychodynamic clinician to help clients learn to identify and address underlying root causes of their current struggles. I strongly believe that understanding and processing emotions from the past can alleviate current symptoms that clients may now be dealing with. As a depth-oriented therapist, I find it powerful to help people understand where they come from and gain insight into their own life decisions.
Although my work is grounded in Psychodynamic and attachment theory, I also draw upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) tools. Depending on what my clients' needs are, I use the best approach to assist my clients in improving their quality of life. CBT can help you identify maladaptive thinking and behavioral patterns, and implement specific strategies to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, body image issues, etc
I am an interactive and dynamic therapist who believes that my clients are experts of themselves and might need a little assistance, compassion and warmth to embrace their personal strengths and insights to better cope with everyday life struggles.
Due to my background, and my rich experience working with a diverse population, I consider myself a multicultural therapist who works collaboratively with my clients to help them embrace their inner-self and become the best version of themselves. I create a safe environment that welcomes individuals from different cultural, religious and racial backgrounds and all gender identities.

The practice
Welcome to Wellness Journey! I am a Psychotherapist licensed in New York, California, and New Jersey, and I created this practice to offer a safe place for adults, couples, and families who are looking for support to work through the challenges they are currently facing.
I provide individual therapy to clients who are experiencing relationship issues, may be going through a life transition, or suffering from anxiety, stress or depression. Specialized in Eating Disorders, I assist individuals in overcoming their body image issues, while healing their relationship with food. I also provide family and couples counseling focusing on changing relationship patterns, learning positive communication skills, and building a stronger bond to better face everyday life challenges.
Seeking therapy, or asking for help is not an easy step. And yet, if you are here, it is probably because you are looking for some answers, guidance, and a trustful environment where you can talk about whatever difficult situation you are going through. By taking the first step, you are showing courage and together we can help you learn to embrace your individual strengths to better cope with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, etc.
Due to the actual pandemic, I offer telehealth (video sessions) for clients located in New York, California, and New Jersey. I also offer therapy in French, as I am a French Therapist! I use my own experience as a “French expat” to support clients in this challenging life transition.

What to expect
As a Psychotherapist, my priority is to help clients feel safe and comfortable in session with me. I offer a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can have the space to work through the challenges that they are currently facing. Therapy can sometimes be challenging as we will discuss current life difficulties, and process complicated emotions, but with the right therapist the journey can be rewarding and helpful.
I work collaboratively with my clients, I help them define positive goals for their therapy, and discuss what they would like to accomplish in their work with me. I help people gain confidence, feel more in control of their own lives, and get a better understanding of what they want for themselves. My clients and I work together toward identity growth, and a better sense of self. As a holistic and depth oriented therapist, I assist clients in exploring how past relational experiences might impact their ability to connect meaningfully with others.
I am dedicated to helping you embrace your personal strengths, gain insight, and develop effective ways of coping with life transitions, depression and anxiety, body image issues, and relationship issues.
